Research
History Research
The history faculty offers undergraduate training in four primary fields and graduate training in five primary fields. In addition, there are active clusters of faculty working in certain special or research areas, some of which cross geographic field boundaries. Other faculty research and teaching interests are listed in the Faculty Directory and in the individual faculty biographies accessed through that directory.
Philosophy Research
Philosophy in the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies has two main areas of specialization: Human Valuing & Public Practices and Metaphysics & Epistemology. The Faculty of Philosophy has considerable strength in these areas and is focused on their development. Arizona State University encourages cross disciplinary studies, and our strengths are complemented by those in other departments and colleges within ASU.
Religious Studies Research
Our faculty and students investigate religious ideas, values and practices from a core perspective in the Humanities that engages the social and behavioral sciences and other disciplines at Arizona State University. From this interdisciplinary approach we study religion through three distinct but interdependent frames: traditions, regional contexts and themes.
Religious studies brings together perspectives and approaches from history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and literature to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the individuals and traditions that constitute religions and cultures.
