History professor speaks at Nixon Presidential Library

Donald T. Critchlow spoke on April 24 at the Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California about his new book, When Hollywood Was Right: How Studio Moguls, Movie Stars, and Big Business Remade American Politics. Published by Cambridge University Press, Critchlow’s book describes how Hollywood conservatives beginning in the 1940s rebuild the California Republican Party, eventually electing Richard Nixon to the White House, first as Vice President and then later as President, and Ronald Reagan to the governor’s mansion and in 1980 to the White House. Critchlow says that his book provides lessons for the political left and right today.
